You top up your Fee Balance from your main CC balance. As long as you hold CC in your wallet, there is nothing else to buy or set up.
How to do it
1. Select your Fee Balance in the top bar
2. Choose Top up
3. Pick an amount
4. Confirm and sign
The top-up runs in the background. You do not have to wait on the screen for it: you can carry on, and it appears in your history when it completes.
How much should I add?
It depends on how often you transact. Occasional use needs very little. If you transact frequently, or you build on the SDK, keep more in reserve.
A good rule: top up before you reach warning. If you fall to critical, your next action is blocked until you add more.
If you connect to apps through the wallet, keep a larger cushion. Some connected transactions cannot be estimated in advance, so the wallet cannot warn you as precisely there.
A top-up cannot be reversed
Once CC is credited to your Fee Balance it stays there. It cannot be moved back to your main balance, and it cannot be refunded.
So top up what you expect to use rather than moving your whole balance across. You can always add more later, and there is no advantage to holding a large Fee Balance.
Does topping up cost a fee?
Yes, a small one. The top-up is itself a transaction on the network, so it carries its own network fee. You see it before you confirm.
Your first top-up may have that network fee covered by a one-time credit. Where it applies, the top-up screen shows it.
The wallet protects your ability to top up: it will stop you spending down to the point where you could no longer afford a top-up.
The top-up did not go through
If crediting fails, we retry it automatically. You do not need to sign again. If it still fails after that, your CC is returned to you.
My balance has not updated
After a transaction, the balance takes a few seconds to refresh while the transaction settles on the ledger. After a top-up it updates as soon as the top-up executes.
